Special Weather Statement~For October 31st

USPA NEWS - SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
Issued on October 29th, 2025, for Nova Scotia.
Rain and strong winds expected on Halloween (Friday). Environment Canada has issued the following statement:

"Potential rainfall: 30 to 50 mm, with higher amounts possible. Nova Scotia can expect potential wind gusts southeasterly 70 to 80 km/h, and up to 110 from Margaree Harbour to Bay St. Lawrence. There remains some uncertainty as to where the highest rainfall amounts will occur, but the potential exists for significant totals over some locations. Warnings may be required for some areas. Secure outdoor items such as Halloween decorations and garbage bins so they don’t blow around in strong winds. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada."

Flood Safety Precautions: "Stay Prepared, Stay Safe" as flooding can occur rapidly, so being prepared is crucial for protecting yourself and your loved ones. Follow these safety guidelines:

To mitigate flood risks, conduct a thorough risk assessment. Consult local flood maps and alerts. Prepare a comprehensive emergency kit, including: water, non-perishable food, first aid, flashlight, and batteries. Protect critical documents by placing IDs, insurance information, and medical records in waterproof bags. Establish an evacuation plan which identifies safe routes and shelters.

During a flood, evacuation orders must be taken seriously and acted upon promptly. Safety is paramount, so do not hesitate to evacuate. Keep a waterproof bag packed with essential items, enabling rapid evacuation. It is crucial to avoid floodwaters and never attempt to walk, swim, or drive through moving water. Remain informed and attentive to alerts from local authorities.

Following a flood, beware of hazards. Be cautious of downed power lines, debris, and contaminated water. Check on family and neighbors, particularly the elderly and those with special needs. Document damage for insurance purposes and recovery assistance.
